Changing Expansion Servers for Distribution Groups in Exchange 2007
A distribution group will simply be expanded on any server in the organization by default. In cases of large distribution groups or dynamic distribution groups hurting performance however, it is possible to assign them to an expansion server, which was discussed in our earlier overview to distribution groups.
This can be done by selecting the distribution group from the Exchange Management Console. Access its properties by first clicking on it before clicking on the “Properties” option in the Actions pane. Clicking on the “Advanced” tab in the dialog box brings up the “Expansion server” configuration in the organization.
While this particular example only offers one server to select from, it is a usually good idea to select a Hub Transport server to offload the intense workload that comes from handling the distribution groups. This has the added benefit of reducing the impact of handling distribution groups on a production Exchange server.
